Rice (Oryza Sativa) is the caryopsis of an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the family of the Graminacee. The caryopsis is composed of the grain or germ and the glumellae forming the outer protective shell, called lolly. Polishing and dehosting characterize the preliminary phases of the working process of the cereal, thus allowing to remove the lolly while maintaining the outer film of the grain, called pericarp (bran). Following these operations, brown or husked rice is obtained, with a higher fiber content, mineral salts, amino acids, essential fatty acids and vitamins compared to the refined product. In particular, brown rice has a higher concentration of Vitamins group B and E, useful for the well-being of the skin and to prevent of skin aging. The antioxidant action is also reinforced by the content of gammaorizanol, a mixture of sterols, ferulic acid and triterpenic alcohols, able to filter the solar radiation UVB and UVA primarily responsible for photo-aging.
