HIGHLIGHTS

Rosehip is a wild plant belonging to the Rosaceae family extended mostly in Europe in temperate climate zones. The name of the plant has ancient origins and refers to the properties of its roots in fighting the rabies caused by the bites of infected dogs. The rosehip has normally the form of a thorny shrub with small leaves and characteristic pink-white flowers. Its fruits, called cinorrodes, are actually red berries of ovoid shape, glabrous to which are to be attributed the main properties of the plant. In particular rosehip berries are rich in Vitamin C and other antioxidant components including Vitamin E, provitamin A (or betacarotene), tannins, pectin and especially bioflavonoids. In addition to counteracting the action of free radicals, these precious components stimulate the production of collagen and exert a protective action against ultraviolet radiation associated to sun exposure. The presence of tannins and carotenoids also guarantees astringent purifying and vasoprotective properties for microcirculation.
