Elecampane is prescribed to treat nauseousness, indigestion and chronic gastritis in oriental medicine. Recently it is revealed that it suppresses the proliferation of tumor cells. Also, its flower extract showed more excellent effect on inhibiting tyrosinase than arbutin, one of the good skin-lightening ingredients in cosmetics. In addition, there are luteolin, flavonoids, coumarins and kampferol in flower extract, which scavange free radical and protect cells from oxidative stress.
