Arabian Chemical Industries ISOLITH
Arabian Chemical Industries ISOLITH is a specially formulated blend of cement, filler and polymer additives and only requires the addition of water at the site to produce awater-resistant, high-bond strength adhesive for fixing tiles both internal or external. ISOLITH is specially produced for fixing ceramic, vitrified, porcelain, glass mosaic and natural stone tiles over concrete, cement screeds, gypsum boards, cement plaster and other masonry substrates. ISOLITH is water resistant and is not affected by prolonged contact with water.

- Specification
ISOLITH conforms with the requirements of ANSI A118.1, BS 5980 and BS EN 12004 (NOTE: BS 5980 has beenwithdrawn and superseded by BS EN 12004).
- Safety and Health
Cement may cause skin irritation when wet. Avoid inhaling powder. Use dust mask and gloves. Skincontamination should be washed clean with water and soap.
- Use Direction
Surface preparation - surface to be tiled must be clean, sound, and free from dust, dirt, loose paint, sealers, curing compound, oil, grease. Etc. Recommended methods for preparing concrete are by washing with water and detergent, wire brushing. Etc. Surface should be damp prior to applying isolith. New concrete and/ or plaster should be dimensionally stable andsufficiently cured so that no drying shrinkage or movement will occur.; Control joints - control joints should be installed where tile abuts restraining structures such as wall, columns and directly over cold/control joints in base concrete. Interior installations shall have control joints spaced a maximum 7 x 7 meters. Exterior areas shall have control joints spaced maximum of 6 x 6 meters.; Mixing - one bag of isolith (25 kg.) will require 6.25-6.75 kg of cool, clean water. For volumetric proportioning, use 1 part water and 2.5 part powder. First, pour the water in a suitable mixing container, then add powder. Mix using an electricdrill fitted with a paddle running at low speed until a uniform creamy consistency is achieved. Allow to stand for 5minutes then remix. Apply immediately within the indicated open time. (note: it is highly recommended to mix small quantities sufficient to cover 1 square meter at a time. For thick bed, water can be reduced to desired consistency).; Fixing - apply mixed isolith with a trowel onto the substrate using scraping motion to work the material into good contact with the substrate. Only as much material should be applied as can be covered with tile within 20 - 30 minutes whileadhesive is still tacky. For large tiles with lugs on the back, comb additional adhesive on the back of each piece. Thiswill ensurefull bed and allow easy leveling. Always provide at least2mm space around every tile. Place tile in adhesive. Press down with a twisting motion until it feels solid. Beat tile with a rubber mallet or piece of woodblock to ensure proper bonding and leveling. Excess adhesive shall be removed and cleaned from the surface of thetile with a wet cloth or sponge while the adhesive is still fresh. Allow adhesive to self-cure for at least 24-hours prior togrouting with isojoint tile grout. (note: as a general rule, excess adhesive should be squeezed-out from the joint filling the sides of each tile one third of the depth).
