Chemical Family
Silicones

AFCONA S713 is a wetting and dispersing additive used to prevent flooding and floating of pigments. It is very effective, offering performance close to that of a high molecular weight dispersant. It is recommended for medium to high polarity systems, such as polyurethane (PU), ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), ultraviolet (UV)-cured, nitrocellulose (NC), heat-cured, and acid-cured systems. This product is also widely used in printing inks.

Product Properties

AFCONA-S713 can be used as an additive for post addition to correct flooding and floating. It will re-flocculate inorganic pigments to the same degree as the organic pigments so that they can move at the same speed. Using this method to solve flooding and floating will sometimes reduce the gloss of the dry film, especially when the dosage is higher than 0.8% on total formulation.; AFCONA-S713 is not compatible with white spirit or paints which are diluted with white spirit.; Note: AFCONA – S713 will become slightly hazy at temperatures below 5° C. This will not influence the performance of the product.

Addition and Dosage

0.5 - 2.5% based on inorganic pigments, or; 0.1 - 1.0% based on total formulation, usually around 0.5%

Storage Information

AFCONA-S713 should be stored in a cool, dry place. When kept in its original, unopened container, it will keep up to 5 years from the date of manufacture. The expiration date is indicated on the container.

Chemical Composition

High molecular weight unsaturated carboxylic acid, combined with a very compatible organically modified polysiloxane.
