- Non-Ionics
DeCAL 5030 is designed to release bubbles and control foam generated in a wide range of aqueous systems containing surfactants. It is a blend of non-ionic surfactants and hydrophobes in a highly refined mineral oil and is non-silicone based. It is used in many applications including water-based paints, adhesives, carpet backing, paper coating, and effluent treatment.

- Application Method
Water-based paints:; Aqueous paints have an inherent tendency to aerate and foam due to the presence of emulsifiers in resin binders. Wetting agents, thickeners and other effect surfactants all help to sustain bubbles once created. DeCAL 5030 effectively combat air entrainment and foam, by promoting bubble coalescence in the bulk, and bubble breaking at the surface. The choice of antifoam will predominantly depend on the binder type in the paint, with factors such as pigment volume concentration and paint viscosity playing their part, especially with the actual dosage level required. Selecting the most cost effective antifoam for a particular paint is very much a practical exercise.; DeCAL 5030 - PV Versatate copolymers, pure acrylics, stirene acrylics, CSBR. Antifoam is designed for moderate to high PVC systems, viz. matt and sheen paints. It is normal practice to add the antifoams as supplied, splitting the dose 1 part to the grind, and 3 parts just before let down with binder. Concentration of use varies greatly, but is normally in the range 0.05% - 0.3% by weight of paint.; Adhesives, grouts etc.:; Acrylic based adhesives respond better to DeCAL 5030. Dosage levels range from 0.1% - 0.5% b.wt. of system.; Carpet backing/paper coating:; DeCAL 5030 is recommended for anchor coats and primary backings for carpets. In paper coating, both are recommended for use in coating colors, with similar preferences to polymer binders as in paints.
