HIGHLIGHTS

Osteoporosis affects nearly half of all people women and men over the age of 70. In women osteoporosis is drastically accelerated during menopause and is the third-leading cause of death of women over 70. By age 55, the average woman already has lost 30% of her bone mass. Until recently hormone replacement therapy (the administration of estrogen either alone or in combination with other hormones) served as the preferred treatment for postmenopausal women hoping to reduce the progression of osteoporosis. Various studies conclude that an estrogen and progestin combination increases the risk of breast cancer, blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks when taken over a long period of time. There is a constant search for a safer alternative to hormone replacement therapy. Bone remodeling is a continuous lifelong process in which old bone is removed and new bone is formed in the skeleton. It consists of bone resorption and bone formation phases involving osteoclast and osteoblast cells respectively. Biochemical markers of bone turnover, which are a reflection of bone metabolism, can be used for the diagnosis of metabolic bone diseases in bone reconstruction or remodeling. The measurement of markers of bone turnover is one of the most useful methods to assess the therapeutic effects of various anti-osteoporosis remedie.. PhytosseaTM prevents and controls osteoporosis by inhibiting osteoclasts based enzymes-mediated breakdowns of bone
