Afcona 3231, a liquid leveling agent, is formulated for 2K and clear coat applications, especially in automotive OEM, vehicle refinish, wood coatings, and metal coatings. It enhances film build, promotes flow, and ensures good compatibility and leveling, particularly with polyurethane coatings. Suitable for spray application and radiation cure methods, it also offers a wet-look appearance and serves as a top coat or UV-curable coating, providing excellent performance on various substrates, including plastics and wood.

AFCONA-3231 can be added at any stage during the production process.
- Storage Condition
AFCONA-3231 should be stored in a cool dry place. When kept in an original unopened container, it will keep up to 5 years from the date of manufacture. The expiry date is indicated on the container

AFCONA-3231 gives very good slip and the slip characteristic is oily type, also called as wet look appearance. Therefore, it can enhance visually film thickness AFCONA – 3231 normally used in metal coatings like industrial baking systems, car refinish polyurethane top clear coats and other vehicle paint. AFCONA – 3231 also widely used in UV coatings due to the good leveling and slip performance. However, it does not contain any reactive functional group that can cross-link with UV resin system. Due to its high surface activity, AFCONA-3231 can interfere with intercoat adhesion when recoated without sanding. If air is introduced by the application equipment, the use of small amounts of defoamers such as AFCONA-2020 and AFCONA-2022 are recommended. AFCONA – 3231 is recommended in below systems: 1) 2K Polyurethane. It gives low sensitivity to inner bubble. 2) Industrial baking systems where baking temperature is less than 170ºC. In normal case, AFCONA – 3030 or AFCONA - 3233 is recommended for industrial baking systems. However, if higher slip is needed, AFCONA -3231 will be the better choice. 3) UV coatings. A lot of time, AFCONA – 3231 is selected for UV due to the less foam stabilizing effect and good compatibility.
- Addition and Dosage
0.05 – 0.50% on total formulation. In general under normal conditions, the dosage is 0.05 – 0.25% based on total formulation.
