Aqueous Solutions

Solutions of bleached shellac in basic aqueous media are readily obtainable up to a solids content of approx. 30%.

Major Applications

Wood coatings and glazes, flexographic printing inks, hat proofing, hair sprays, mold-release agents, leather finishing, fruit coatings, raw material for shellac special products.

Storage and Transport

Keep cool and dry. The shelf life of bleached shellacs will be more than 12 months if stored/transported at temperatures <20 degrees C (55 degrees F). Higher temperatures will accelerate aging of the solid material and raise the risk of "blocking" especially under the influence of humidity. The solubility of this shellac should be checked periodically as a precautionary measure. Because of the reasons above, we recommend refrigerated transport.

Organic Solvent Solutions

TIGERLAC™ 5050 CHLORINE-FREE is readily soluble in low-molecular weight alcohols (e.g., ethanol, n-and iso-propanol) and some glycol derivatives (e.g., propyl glycol, butyl glycol), in benzylalcohol and others.
