CoatOSil™ 3501 coatings additive is the Momentive Performance Materials most powerful friction reducing agent, providing the maximum in coefficient of friction (COF) reduction for radiation-cured formulations in its portfolio of coatings additives. And this additive isn’t one-dimensional; it also functions as an extremely effective defoamer, especially in aqueous systems. And it enhances slip and mar resistance in waterborne, water-reducible and conventional and high-solids solvent systems.

Processing Recommendation

To prevent coating defects and other incompatibility problems, CoatOSil 3501 coatings additive should only be used in conjunction with more compatible materials, such as CoatOSil 3500 coatings additive or Silwet* L-7602 surfactant. When used alone at 0.5-1% in acrylate coating systems, CoatOSil 3501 coatings additive may cause severe orange peel and gloss reduction. However, when used in combination with Silwet L-7602 surfactant, this incompatibility can be controlled. Thus, one can balance defects against COF reduction. Good starting points are 5-10% CoatOSil 3501 coatings additive with Silwet L-7602 surfactant used at 1% total additive. If defects still occur, try lower ratios. If there are no surface defects, higher ratios will decrease COF even more.
